Iblogtren.com - How To Make MicroSD As Internal Memory On Android Xiaomi - How to Change MicroSD as Internal Memory on Xiaomi Mobile Without Roo - Before proceeding further, make sure that the MicroSD you want to use as internal memory on your Xiaomi mobile phone is of good quality, such as MicroSD Class 10 or if necessary use MicroSD UHS Class 1-3. In this tutorial I use SanDisk Ultra UHS-I 64 GB Class 10 MicroSD
How to Change MicroSD as Internal Memory on Xiaomi Mobile (Without Root)
In this article I will explain 3 methods for converting an SD Card into an internal memory on Xiaomi.
1. Change SD Card Into Internal Memory By Formatting as Internal
How to use MicroSD as internal memory on the first Xiaomi cellphone is to use the Activity Launcher application. This technique requires no root cell phone and no need to unlock Xiaomi Bootloader.
- Prepare Tools and Materials
- Good quality microSD, at least UHS-I Class 10 (don't use the cheap ones). I recommend the SanDisk brand because the quality is good.
- Download and install the Activity Launcher application
Disclaimer: In this article I tested using Redmi 5A MIUI 9 Stable and in MIUI 10 beta, I cannot guarantee this method works on all Xiaomi phones. This method runs the risk of deleting data on your cellphone and SD Card, so you MUST Backup Your Data. Do With Your Own Risk.
- Step By Steps
Open the Activity Launcher application. Tap on the "Recent activities"> select "All activities". Then wait until loading is complete.
Look for the "Files" menu, just tap it and choose one of the ones I like as shown below
Then select "SD Card", after that in the upper right corner tap the three point icon, select "Storage settings".
Then select "Format as Internal".
Then select "Erase & format". Wait until the SD card formatting process is complete.
After the format process is complete, select the "Move now" option, then click "Next".
Next, click "Move". Wait until the file transfer process is complete, whether or not long depends on how much data is transferred.
When done, the SD Card is ready notification will appear.
Finally, reboot / restart your Xiaomi phone.
Note: I haven't tested this method in MIUI 8, once again I emphasize that this method might not necessarily work on all Xiaomi phones, because each type must have some differences.
What if I want to restore the microSD function as external memory again?
Follow the steps below:
- Backup all your data before, or your data will be lost
- equal to the capacity of the microSD installed.
- Remove the SD Card from the cellphone.
- A notification will appear: "SD Card Required".
- Then click "Forget SD Card", then select "Confirm".
- Now insert the SD Card that was released earlier.
- Finally, click the notification entered, then select "Format as External Storage".
For the record, this method has several shortcomings, that is after applying the above method, the information storage capacity / storage becomes a bit chaotic.
In addition, the read / write speed is of course down, because of course eMMC / internal storage is faster than the UHS-I class 10 A1 microSD read / write spec. Even UHS-I U3 is still inferior to eMMC / internal storage.
Therefore, before you actually execute the tutorial above, I want you to know some of the risks and consequences.
The method above is not the only method to make MicroSD into internal memory, below there are still 2 ways to make a memory card as internal memory in Xiaomi. Please read this article until it's complete.
2. Change the Default Storage to MicroSD
This is the second way to convert microSD into internal memory at Xiaomi, by changing the default storage to microSD. This technique is more suitable if done when you just bought the microSD.
In essence, change the default default settings that store data to internal memory, to external memory. In my opinion this is the easiest way, and this second method can be applied to all Xiaomi phones.
- Step By Steps
- Turn off your Xiaomi Smartphone
- then insert the MicroSD
- and turn on the cellphone
- Go to "Settings"
- then to "Storage".
Scroll down, then click on "Storage Settings". Click on it and you will be presented with the storage settings for each of the default mobile applications. Starting from the camera, gallery, music, and so on.
Click one by one and change the storage to "External Storage".
But this method is only able to store files such as music, photos, documents, and the like, it can't save application data.
3. Change to Use the Adoptable Storage Feature
Well, this is the third way to convert MicroSD into Xiaomi's internal memory, this method uses the Adoptable Storage feature. This tutorial is quite long and a bit complicated. I can't guarantee whether this method will work on all Xiaomi phones, because every type is different with different ROMs.Note: This method is quite complicated for ordinary people, if you are not familiar with computers and do not like mengoprek android mobiles, please ignore this third way. Do With Your Own Risk. One of them is to equip tools and materials which include .
- Windows computer / laptop.
- Original or good quality USB cable.
- Quality MicroSD. In this tutorial I use SanDisk Ultra UHS-I 64 GB Class 10 MicroSD.
- Download and install ADB-Fasboot-And-Driver-v1.4.3 on your Laptop / PC.
- Make sure you have activated the USB Debugging feature on Xiaomi Mobile.
If the conditions are met, please follow the following tutorial,
Start by backing up data from both memories. Data backup is very important, because if an error or failure occurs, your data is still safe somewhere.
Connect the Smartphone to the computer with a USB cable.
Open Command Prompt in Windows in a special way. How: Open the Local Disk folder c: \ adb, after that press SHIFT + Right Click on an empty area, then select "Open command window here".
- Next enter the command: adb devices
Adb devices rule works to check whether the device is installed correctly. If a random code appears means the device has been installed, and the HP screen will display the notification "Allow USB Debugging?" Just click OK. Instead, check the device again if it is not detected and no random code appears.
- Then type the command: adb shell then press Enter.
- Then type the command: sm set-force-adoptable true then press Enter.
Then type: sm list-disks and press Enter. At the bottom, your disk code will appear, noting the visible numbers. Example: 179.64.
Then the format of microSD with instructions: sm partition disk: xxx, xx mixed YY.
Note: Replace the code ‘xxx, xx’ with the code you noted earlier. While the 'YY' code after mixed contains the percentage of MicroSD that you want to use as internal storage.
Example! If you want 70% of the MicroSD to be external memory, then the complete command will be: sm partition disk: 179.64 mixed 70
Then press Enter.
Then type the command: sm list-volumes then press Enter.
Look at the long random number that appears after the word "mounted", copy the code. Example: 082c6d3c-a7fb-4017-9a87-64586eed0a4a.
Type the command: pm move-primary-storage xxxxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxxxxxxx (xx is the long random code that you copied), then press Enter.
If the command is correct, a data transfer notification will appear. Wait for the 'Move Complate' notification to appear on your mobile.
If done, restart your Xioami phone.
- How to Change it Back to External Memory Again?
- Open the "Settings" menu, then select "Storage".
- Then select "Erase USB Storage".
- Then select "Delete & Format", wait until the process is complete and push "Finish".
If you don't want to be complicated, the second method is the simplest.
Isn't it hard to make MicroSD as internal memory on Xiaomi's Smartphone? Now you have a device with barrier free storage. So, you don't need to root the phone if it's just to increase its storage capacity.
